Correcting ILEARN or IREAD Audio Issues
Your students iPad may experience audio issues during testing. This article will guide you through a step-by-step process to correct the issue. Test Administrators (TAs) administering any ILEARN or IREAD assessment to a student who will be testing using an iPad must ensure that the “Speak Screen” and “Silence Mode” features are turned off on the student’s iPad prior to the start of testing.
Accessing iPad Settings
These features are not turned on by default. If these features are enabled, students will experience audio issues on their IREAD assessment. To check that these features are disabled, follow the steps below:
How to Disable the "Speak Screen" Setting
Find and open the Settings application.
Find and open the Accessibility settings page.
In the “Vision” section, find and select the Spoken Content page.
Find the “Speak Screen” option. Ensure that the feature is toggled off (showing a white bubble, rather than a green one).
How to Disable the "Silence Mode" Setting
Find and open the Settings application.
Find and open the Sound settings page.
Find the “Silent Mode” option. Ensure that the feature is toggled off (showing a white bubble, rather than a green one).
To avoid issues or interruptions during testing, TAs should also review other accessibility settings on the iPad and ensure that no additional system accessibility settings are enabled. The Test Delivery System (TDS) interface will provide students with embedded accessibility features such as text-to-speech (TTS) during testing based on their test settings in the Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE).
